Swarthmore is named after Swarthmoor Hall, a seventeenth century Elizabethan home in England that served as the focal point of the early Quaker development. In 1863, Swarthmore College was built up for the training of Quaker kids. Presently nonsectarian, the College has more than 40 courses of study and more than 1,500 understudies.
