Religious Studies (RLGS)

Courses
RLGS 1101 Religious Lives: Jesus (4 Credits)

The title of this course has a two sided connotation. From one perspective, the title recommends our own is an investigation of a religiously critical figure. Jesus is one such verifiable personage. Henceforth his life is the object of study. The course title likewise indicates the accounts' character. They are "lives," "religious lives" of Jesus that emerged out of narrating societies. In those connections, stories were perused and heard so anyone might hear, frequently "performed" and adjusted. Accounts are not "life stories" of Jesus, as we ordinarily think about that kind.

Recognize that in "telling the account of Jesus," the gospel journalists were likewise letting us know their very own account groups, surrounding stories that would impact how early Christians experienced their religious responsibilities to Jesus in a world molded by the powers recently antiquated Judaism and Greco-Roman government.

We must take after enticing intimations and reach determinations from writings - conveniently contrasted with the scripts of plays- - that were not intrigued, fundamentally, in target, non-factional, chronicled portrayal. Both Jesus and the accounts bolt our consideration in this course. This course numbers toward the Analytical Inquiry: Society and Culture prerequisite.
